Speech Title and Abstract
From Compliance to Optimization: How AI Facilitates Smart Management and Control of High-Tech Wastewater
High-tech manufacturing plants have long faced a dilemma in wastewater treatment: balancing environmental compliance with operating costs. Traditional dosing methods—which rely heavily on manual experience or fixed-logic rules—struggle to adapt in real-time to drastic fluctuations in water quality. To guarantee that effluent water meets regulatory standards, facility operations often resort to over-dosing chemicals (such as calcium chloride, CaCl2), which in turn incurs massive operational expenses. This session will explore how to break through this bottleneck using AI parameter optimization models. We will share hands-on experience from a successfully deployed "Wastewater Dosing AI Transformation Project" in a high-tech fab, where a predictive model was built by extracting eight key variables from the raw water and treatment processes. Key highlights of the presentation include:OT/IT System Integration Architecture: An analysis of how to seamlessly connect AI models with existing industrial databases (PI System) and on-site systems.A Zero-Risk Implementation Path: A deep dive into a four-stage strategy spanning from current-state diagnosis and testing to integrated operations. Special emphasis will be placed on the seamless on-site roll-back mechanism, ensuring that while AI provides optimized recommendations, the facility's localized systems maintain ultimate control and stability.Proven Quantitative Results: A demonstration of how the AI implementation successfully stabilized and narrowed effluent fluoride ion concentrations from 20–60 ppm down to a robust 20–40 ppm, reducing chemical consumption by 8% to 12% and saving nearly NT$20 million annually for a single plant. This presentation aims to provide facility and engineering managers with a pragmatic, highly scalable, and No-Code lightweight deployment path for smart management, achieving a win-win transition from basic compliance to holistic optimization.
